April Goals

April_Goals_1_TP

If you remember at the beginning of the year, I wrote about my 2017 New Years Resolutions. Since then, I took time at the beginning of each month to hand-pick some of thoose resolutions to focus on throughout the 30-days. January was fair, a few were accomplished, however, February and March fell flat. I think it's mainly because I haven't been managing my time correctly and I don’t remember my goals throughout the month. I have been reading A Girl, Obsessed and Kate La Vie for a few years now and at the beginning of each month, they share the goals they wish to accomplish. I thought, “hey, why not do the same?” It seems like a positive habit to have.

April is my last month of college and with that, I will be completing my freshman year of college(or university if you live in the UK…I think). A lot of these goals will be to start creating habits for the upcoming summer vacation, also, some bits and pieces are school-oriented for my upcoming papers and finals.

A New Business Email

lailapretty@hellokitty.com has had its run, but I think it is time to upgrade. If I want to see Townhouse Palette as branded business, I should really start taking business-like steps.  I cannot afford to create a serious business email through gsuite, but I can use townhousepalette@gmail.com. Since Gmail organizes all my emails in sections, my primary box will be used for any business-related emails. I check my email so much due to school that it makes sense because my emails will be in my face. Also, I should update the contact page on the blog, where I want to keep all important information regarding any PR, Sponsor, Advertising, or Business Inquires. That way, no one will bounce around to try to find what they are looking for.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

L'oreal_Pro-Matte_Foundation_1_TP

It has been a hot minute since I last sat down and wrote a makeup post (well... just a "post" that is). I decided to do a formal review on the L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation*. I mentioned the foundation in my 2017 February Favorites post. It has been my go-to foundation since I went through a skin-type change earlier this year.

Where did I buy it?

I purchased the foundation for the first time at CVS a month ago. I do not remember how much I bought it for, but I went back a few days ago and saw it was $12.99. I am signed up for their CVS rewards program, so I probably did save some money when I bought it the first time. However, when I went to purchase another tube in a lighter color, I did not want to pay the full price. So instead I purchased it on Amazon*. It was $10.79, but Amazon gave me a $2.00 off coupon making it $8.79, then with tax, it was a total of $9.41.

I bought my first tube in the shade 108 or Caramel Beige (Beige Caramel) which is my spring/summer/autumn color, which probably most similar to my MAC shade of NC42. I later bought the a lighter shade in 106 or Sun Beige (Beige Soleil) to mix in with 108 to get the perfect color. Well, the most similar color because brown people can never find their perfect match.

8-Month Bullet Journal Update

8_BuJo_2
8_BuJo_4

No one asked, but here I am to give my 8-Month Bullet Journal Update. I have written a bit about bullet journaling in the past, like here and here. However, since we all know I don't go through with things, you all will be pleased to know that writing in and using my Bullet Journal has become a habit. I thought I would share what a typical spread looks like for me.

I start each month by creating a monthly calendar and writing in all my school-related assignments and activities. Everything has a distinct color, so it clicks into my mind what class it is for without having to write the name of the class.

Do you use a lighter concealer to highlight and cover blemishes?

I was reading a post by From Roses about an hour ago and she posted Four Ways to get a Perfect Base. At the end of the post, Rebecca asked "what are some ways you get a perfect base?" It had me thinking about something I do that many others do not, which is using two separate concealers: one that matched your skin tone and another that is lighter to highlight. Note: I also have a color correcting one, but that is another story.

The concealers I am using at the moment are the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in "Ginger" and MAC Studio Finish Concealer in "NC42." I use "Ginger" to conceal/highlight my under eyes, my chin, and my nose. For "NC42," I use that to conceal around my nose and any blemishes and hyper pigmentation I might have.

February 2017 Favorites

FF_2017_TP

Today starts my Spring Break where I will return home and do what I do at school: nothing. Just kidding, I do homework and stuff at school. It is really funny actually because I had photo assignments due on the first of March, it was like the 26th, and I was like, "yes! I have plenty of time to do them. Little did I remember February had 28 days. So you can imagine how that played out.

MAKEUP.

I made a mistake towards the middle of the month when I left my foundations at home. I was pretty chill about it because I was like, "I'll be back in two weeks." In that time I wore no makeup except for mascara, two days out of the fourteen days. In that time, I was thrown off my groove and was sent into a portal of makeup naivety. So this month, I wanted to highlight was my foundation ("you don't know how good you have it until it is gone" — Ken Bone). I have been using the Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in 108, or Caramel Beige. If you read my Laila Notes II, you would know my skin type changed from dry to oily/combination. What I like about this is that it stays on for the entire day and keeps my skin matte, except for my nose, where I need to touch up during the day.

Current Makeup Storage

CMSU_TP_4

I think the best product I ever purchased to store my makeup products in was an acrylic drawer set from here. At first, my makeup was stored on my side table parallel to my window. However, that is also where my heater is located and it clicked in my mind that heat and makeup don't go well together. Well, unless your are baking or applying concealer, ok, that is besides the point. I decided to move all my makeup onto my desk under the shelf. It is quite difficult to explain, maybe you can see it in a room tour post, hmmm????

Anyways, at the start of the row, you will see my acrylic drawers. On top, I like to put my beauty sponges, any used eyelashes, and my Rimmer bronzer (with my MAC Soft'n Gentle, which I later discovered fell behind my desk). The upper drawer contains the following eye products: my Jenn Im x Colourpop Quad, MAC pigments, eyeliners, lash glue, and a MAC Creme Color Base. The second drawer contains the majority of my lip products being lipsticks, lip glosses, Benefit tints, lipliners, and a chapstick.

Laila Notes II.

Stock_TP

It has been awhile since we last spoke, thus we have a bit of catching up to do. So sit back, relax, and get ready for another installment of Laila Notes. If you don't know what Laila Notes is, it was inspired by Grace Day's Grace Notes from her blog That Grace Girl.  It is basically a formal name given to a blog post where I am talking about a bunch of things.

New Blog Design.

Many of you might be wondering why I changed my blog design. It is mainly because I was told by some readers that my older design took too long to load which was due to the dense html/css code. Therefore I opted for a new and more simple design. I am feeling this black and white theme because it will really put the spotlight on my photos.

My Skin-Type Changed.

For the longest time, I went on about how my skin was a dry savannah, but now it has become more oily to combination skin. I have been wearing more makeup lately, more about that later, and I have definitely have seen a change switching over to base products geared to oily skin. My foundation is looking better and lasting longer, but I am getting a bit oily on my nose and the malar region of my face. Any recommendations?

When Life Isn't Treating You Right...

When_Life_Isnt

I think it is normal to reach certain periods in life where you feel that everything is going south. From looks to school to jobs to just life in general, we can all feel discontent at where our lives are going. So here is some advice on how to handle that time in your life.

Show Your Emotions.

I think a lot of us tend to hold back our emotions when we are constantly busy and continuing on with life. Like now, we have to schedule in our sadness and anger, lol. However, whether alone or with a trusted person (whatever you are most comfortable with) show you emotions. Feel anger, feel sadness, feel everything you are holding back. It is okay and sometimes we need to yell and sob just to get over rough situations.

Write Your Emotions Down.

I think when we are raw with our emotions, writing down your feelings is a great source of inspiration take pieces from for better your life. Also, something to look back on when you are feeling better. A sense of something you overcame.

2016 Beauty Favorites

2016_Beauty_Favorites_TP_4

Time to tie-up some loose ends of 2016 with a Beauty Favorites Post. I did a 2015 Beauty Favorites post at the beginning of last year which was quite a hit, so I thought I would continue this newly found tradition. Many of you might notice that I do not have a lot of items compared to last year which is because I did not want to mention anything from last year's beauty favorites.

BASE

All of you already know how much I hate primers, but I was quite pleased with the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer. It has a smooth, velvet texture and it does a good job of controlling oil on my t-zone. It is great for oil, but I have drier skin, so my skin look parched after a long day of foundation-wear. This year's foundation was all about the Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Foundation (#220). I never go for drugstore foundation because I need to test the color in order to get a good match (220 is a bit too light for me, lol), however, the finish of this foundation is beautiful. It has a nice satin finish and makes your skin look healthy and dewy. Concealer this year has to go to the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. I bought this last year but started using it more this year. Phenomenal concealer when it comes to highlighting and concealing the under eyes. It is very similar to its foundation counterpart: The Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation in texture, scent, and weight.

2017 New Year's Resolutions

TP_2017_NY_Res_1

Another year, another set of goals that I will forget in about three weeks. I can't say if I accomplished any of my goals of last year, let alone remember any of them. However, as I am slowly initiating myself into full-on 'adulting', setting goals will help me determine whether or not I am being productive or wasting time. Also, when another year goes by it will be great to see what was a priority to me at that time. For this, I will be quoting my good friend and hero, Michael Scott.

"K.I.S.S: keep it simple, stupid."
