What Blogging Taught Me...Townhouse Palette's 4th Birthday

IMG_5546

I was sitting in my room yesterday (26th) around 11:50 at night when I remembered that Townhouse Palette's birthday was today (27th). Which was a really sweet surprise considering I was pretty sad that day because my car caught on fire and I had a week left of break :D

I always like taking this next week to reflect on the year and myself because that is important for self-growth. In the past, I always share a long heart to heart story which comes off slightly cheesy...lol. However, I thought I would share what blogging has taught me these past four years.

Le Nez

MY_NOSE

Cyrano De Bergerac was a cadet who worked for the French army. Even though he was real, his life was fictionalized in to a famous play by Edmond Rostand. He was known as a phenomenal fighter, lyrical poet, and a gifted musician. Using his gift of poetry, he would send anonymous letters to his cousin Roxanne, who he was in love with. However, he was never able to confess to his beautiful cousin because he thought he was ugly.

"Cyrano de Bergerac est connu pour son grand nez." Cyrano de Bergerac is known for his big nose. He was never able to share his true feelings because he was self-conscious about his nose.

A couple weeks ago, I watched a video on this YouTuber who I have been watching since she started her channel. She is younger than me and she got a nose job. Which got me thinking about my past and my never-ending battle with my nose.

It started when I got into Asian Entertainment. A lot of people who wanted to be K-pop starts got something called the Kpop Combo. Which was getting double-eyelid surgery and a rhinoplasty.  It was really bizarre to me because I thought noses were not a big deal, but after looking at girls who were considered perfect, I began envying and comparing myself. I told myself I was going to get a nose job...I was 14.

MY_NOSE

Noses are apparently a HUGE deal when it comes to physical appearance. A ton of bloggers do it and they get criticized for it. So I took the liberty of editing three pictures of my nose and leaving one natural. Before you hit read more, guess which one it is. Then the answer will be below...

Limited Edition Allure Beauty Box | 12 days till '16

IMG_6554

I am not a huge fan of beauty boxes because they tend to lure you in with the one or two full sized products and then add a bunch of samples. However, when I heard about the Limited Edition Allure Beauty Box, I knew I could not pass it up.

For $45 dollars, you get the best beauty products 2015. You get five popular full-sized products and two sample products. I was really excited to try all the products because everything was new to me, but I heard great things about.

Black Friday Haul

BLACK_FRIDAY_HAUL

BLACK_FRIDAY_HAUL

I am not a very big fan of Black Friday. The thought of waking up early after eating a 25 course meal, only to be fighting over 5 for $25 underwear with some middle aged woman, is not very thrilling. However, for introverts like me, online shopping is the way to go. Of course I have to leave the house to hit up those pre-sales and scavenge the left-overs after D-Day.

run Run RUN

IMG_6517

I know there has been a serious lack of makeup posts on the blog lately and I am truly sorry. I just have not been in the makeup wearing mood because of everything going on with school and life, in general. I also know, I have been doing an overwhelming amount of life posts this past year mostly regarding school. However, I do think a part of Townhouse Palette as my personal diary because I feel as if I can share my true feelings here.

My Everyday Makeup Bag

IMG_6501

The Everyday Makeup Bag. A pretty important pouch, if I do say myself. Previously, I kept all my makeup in the shallow, middle drawer of my vanity because I thought it was most practical. However, I noticed I would constantly have to open it to get more products which would result in me nailing myself in the stomach. Imagine if I was in a hurry and needed something from in there, I would be dead.

I then began to think of ways to reorganize my collection because I was over stuffing the drawer. I thought what can I do to spend no money, but have some structure in my makeup collection. So I decided to have one makeup bag dedicated to all my everyday essentials, while I keep everything else in little bins in my drawer. In case if I have the courage to open the drawer even knowing the consequences.

Midweek Pick Me Up

MIDWEEK_PICK_ME_UP

There is nothing I can't bare than that day in the middle of the week: Wednesday. Like Anna Nalick said, " Life is like a cave, your just as far in as you'll ever be out." Of course, if I had a magic then it would be Friday already, but to make my Wednesday more passable I enjoy having a weekly pick-me up.

I learned about the Midweek Pick Me Up from my sister, which now gives me a reason to gift myself in the middle of the week :D However, I thought I would share some ideas and activities to make your journey to the weekend a lot more tolerable.

Mac Naked Pigment

Mac_Naked_Pigment_1

Pigments -- the lost makeup product. This beauty is what I consider to be the closest thing to magic on earth, or in the makeup world if you will. They have so many colors; many finishes; and overall, are one of the most versatile products in the cosmetic universe.

Today's focus is going to be on the Mac Pigment in Naked (link). This probably one of the most popular pigments from Mac because of its natural aura.

We need to talk...

WE_NEED_TO_TALK

I know...I know... I have not posted in a long time, but I can explain everything! One word: Band. Not just any band, marching band. I may have mentioned it once or twice on my blog, but I am was a marching bando. My fourth and final season of marching band ended last Saturday at state competition. It is a really bittersweet feeling knowing that my high school career is coming to an end, but I will be starting a fresh new chapter.

Moving Forward...

moving_forward

"Yesterday was history; tomorrow is a mystery; today is gift, that is why it is called the present." These are the wise words of Master Oogway from Dreamworks Kung Fu Panda. At the time, these words carried very little weight to me because I was more impressed with the 'today is a gift, that is why it called the present' pun to fully understand the meaning of this phrase.

I become stressed out on a regular basis. Whether it be little things like forgetting something, or big things, like a test. I did not realize how much I have been stressing until I saw my face one morning. I was covered with acne, but not just any acne, acne that is formed under the skin. I have not had clear skin since the seventh grade, but the past year my skin has been getting better. My skin had broken out, all over, which is really strange because I keep a very tight skincare regimen. I get stressed all the time and get a few zits, but not like this.

Laneige Bright Renew Night Cream ⋆

Laneige_Night_Cream

Over the years, I have been implementing new skincare products and a routine to try to get the best skin possible. I have not reached that best skin possible, but I am still working towards it! I got interested in night creams because of the popularity of sleeping packs sold in far East Asia, mostly from Korea. While I was shopping at Target on my birthday, I came across the Laneige Bright Renew Night Cream (link), which was  on sale for about $12.00 (originally $38.00!!!!!).

Japanese Skincare

Japanese_Skincare

Hello everyone~ how are all of you? Today I wanted to shed a spotlight on some Japanese skincare products because Korean products have been all the rage lately. My skincare collection is a mix of American, Japanese, Korean, Indian, and Taiwanese beauty products. Diverse, I know.

Life Planner

IMG_6356

Ever since I have gotten into glam planning, I have seen a huge increase in productivity. I have been studying more and I actually have a grip on the disaster I call a life. It is all thanks to the copious amounts of stress from scholarships, tests, and colleges. However with this handy-dandy planner I am a lot more organized and a lot less stressed out.

Sephora Skincare

IMG_6355

Usually when I see store branded items, I have this natural tendency to buy the original because I think the store brand is trying to trick me with their lower prices. Lol...but when I see significant price differences, I tend to want to get the cheaper items to see if it is a proper dupe. When I was cruising around Sephora looking for something to buy, I starting taking an interest in their skincare line.

Too Faced Natural Matte Eye Palette

IMG_6319

IMG_6321

As you are reading this, my first day of school will be tomorrow. I will officially be a senior in High School and I am pretty sure I am going to have a serious case of senioritis. Anyways, for the longest time I have been eyeing the Too Faced Natural Eye Palettes. I wanted the original with the shimmer/matte colors. However, my sister suggested to purchase this palette, which is the matte version, and I thought I would share my thoughts.

Chicago Haul

IMG_6311

Hello everyone! Recently I traveled to the city of Chicago and while I was there I had the privilege to shop for some makeup. To be quite honest, I find it really funny how I am able to buy high-end makeup for the full price while I tend to go to the clearance aisle when it comes to clothing.

Laneige BB Cushion

Laneige_BB_Cushion_Medium_1

If you are not a big fan of the Korean skincare/makeup like I am, then you probably do not know about the revolutionary BB Cushion. To me, it has changed the makeup game with it's unique concept and here is what I think about it.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eye Liners

IMG_6247
IMG_6253

When I started out with makeup, I told myself I was going to be an eyeliner master. Pencil, gel, liquid: you name it, I will master it! I did not have a lot of money, so I had to make do with buying the cheapest things I could find. I remember circling the drugstore multiple times until I found the Wet n Wild Color Icon Eye Liners and was automatically hooked because they were only a $1.00!

YSL Lippies

IMG_6283

As your reading this, I am in the city of Chicago. Most likely traveling Michigan Avenue trying to spend money I do not have...lol. I do not think I have told you, but YSL has to be my favorite high-end beauty brand (I will definitely be stopping by there tomorrow!). I think because growing up I was always exposed to the gold and red YSL logo, pretty fashionable colors if I do say so myself. Anyways, I thought I would share my beloved YSL lip products in a post ^_^

Facial Mists

IMG_6277

I did not discover my love for facial mists until this year, which is a shame because if I had known about them sooner I could have looked better...lol. Today I wanted to share the two facial mists I have added to my makeup collection and a few of my thoughts regarding them.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

naked_foundation

With all of the new makeup trends to take our appearance to the next level, some of us forget to rock just our skin. In other cases, a lot of us pass up makeup because we think some foundation is too noticeable on the skin. Today, I am going to share the most natural/skin-like foundation I have ever tried. That foundation being the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation (link) which was released, maybe, last year. It can be bought at any Sephora and Ulta for approximately $40.00.

Oh Crêpe!

IMG_6181

IMG_6179

On Thursday my sister celebrated her quarter-life crisis, aka her 25th birthday. She decided on making her own birthday cake and no one really felt like stopping her, lol. She decided on making a Crêpe Cake! Basically layers and layers of crepes with either a ganache or whipped spread, alternating between each layer.

"Who are you?"

IMG_6157

"Who are you?" is a question I am always asking myself. Especially now being seventeen, only one year from starting college. I question what I am doing and what my life goals are. I also came to the conclusion that many of my readers do not know me that well either.

I never keep up with social media because I just stink at it. How do I get other people's attention to come and read my blog? I find on twitter, people just want to promote their blog and not really talk to other bloggers. Which is something I want to do, big time! I quite an introverted personality when it comes to talking on social media. If you want to learn more about me here are two posts you can read: About Me and 10 Facts About Me. Otherwise, keep reading to learn some random things about me.

Free Erin Condren Planner Printables

sns3

To be quite honest, I am not a planner type of person. Not because I want to, but because I always forget. Remember six months ago I did a post about my 2015 blog planner (post here), well I have not been using it. I found that it does not really pique my interest to use it at all. I always forgot and it annoys me because I knew how much more organized I would have been if I used it.

Recently I was re-visiting some YouTubers I used to watch and she mentioned Glam Planning. The idea that a really nice planner+stickers+colors=glam planning. This vlogger was none other than Elle Fowler and her video, Planner 101: Intro to Glam Planning. Glam Planning is also what I like to call where Planning meets Scrapbooking. Now, as a 17-year-old, she got my attention when she mentioned stickers.

At first, like many, I thought this was pretty childish. However, after watching more, I realized this was actually brilliant! I decided that maybe I should give it a try. When I looked into the Erin Condren planner I realized that it was really expensive ($50, $40 with coupons). I decided why not make a test page on photoshop. After creating one, I tested it for a few days and really liked it. I thought why don't I upload in on the internet for everyone to try before buying the original.

Expensive Beauty Products That Some People Are Willing To Buy

thing

Hello everyone~ Long time no talk! I have a pretty fun post for everyone because I will be talking about beauty products, not just any beauty products, expensive beauty products. So sit back, relax, and do not eat/drink anything because you might choke from the prices.

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

IMG_6108

IMG_6111

For the past year, I have been avidly searching for an eye cream. I have a very dry and rough eye area making it hard to have even eyeshadow and eyeliner. I have been looking into them and was trying to get one for under the fifteen dollars until my sister bought home the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado.

Origins Modern Friction Face Scrub

IMG_6101

IMG_6106

Exfoliating on a regular basis is really import because it removes all the dead skin cells of the face. Doing so leaves the skin looking fresh, radiant, and youthful. For the past few months, I have been using the Origins Modern Friction exfoliator. I thought it was about time for me to tell you what I think.

What is on Laila's phone?

IMG_6085

IMG_6084

Hello everyone~ Today I am showing everyone what is on my phone. I have done this kind of post before, but during a blog mishap a few years ago the photos disappeared. I also think this kind of post is cool because I have seen videos on this but not any actual blog posts.

What's in my bag?

IMG_6070

I have never been a fan of hand-held or shoulder bags because I like to keep my hands free and not having to worry about the strap consistently falling off. I keep my bag in two ways, small and simple. I have been using my Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac Clutch as my purse for the past two years. It was gift from my parents on my 15th birthday, you can read about and see what other gifts I got here.

Just Like New

IMG_6048

The clarisonic is arguably one of greatest skincare inventions of the 21st century. I love my clarisonic, but for sometime I stopped using it because A)...it grew mold/fungus and B)... the brush head was way too expensive. Thank goodness I solved these problems and today I will tell you how.

New Face Favorites

IMG_6038

Having perfect or close to prefect looking skin is very important to me. Keeping up with a strict skincare regimen and choosing good face makeup helps a great deal in creating a nice complexion. I thought I would show three new things I have been using to achieve that flawless skin look.

Back To Flat | Journey to a Flatter Tummy!

IMG_6034

I know as a teenager (and as a young adult) it is common to often times become self-conscious over our bodies. Whether it be that we do not have thigh-gaps, big butts, or even tan skin (or white skin depending on where you live in the world). It is totally okay not to have these things, but if you want them it is okay to work for them. I have found myself wanting to flatten my stomach because I gained some fat over the year. Making it harder to fit into my high waisted jeans ;_;

The Book List

Let me paint a picture: imagine sitting by your window with the sunset's rays filling the room with light through the trees. While witnessing this, you sip your tea and pull out your current read. The pages smelling as if it was just printed off the press and the breeze from the windows lightly move your hair. You read your book, while sitting on your cozy bed, till twilight.

DressLink Haul

Hello Everyone~ Today I have a DressLink Haul for you guys. I was contacted by the company in early April to review a few of their products. I also did a wishlist, you can read here, where I talked about other items I would buy if I had the chance. Their products are very affordable and they have a wide variety of items to choose from. You are bound to find something you like ^_^

Length Matters

Mascara is one of those things that instantly makes your face go from 0 to hero. It makes you look awake and ready to tackle your day. It is one of the few makeup products that is needed for simple 'no-makeup' day. I have encountered many lengthening, volumizing, and defining mascaras; but not one like this.

Dresslink Wishlist

Hello everyone~ I was recently contacted by a store called Dresslink to do a review on some of their products and wishlist on some of products I like. Here are some items I would buy from Dresslink if I was not poor. However the products are really cheap...really CHEAP! Don't believe me? Check them out.

The Sponge Approach

Being a girl who has dry skin, it is important to micro-scrub dead skin off the skin on a daily basis. Micro-scrub is just a fancy word for a light face scrub.

A few months ago, Alicia at Born Pretty Store contacted me and asked me to do some reviews on some new items they had just gotten in stock. I picked out the Balala Panda's Dream Lip Crayons (Review Link) and these Velvet Facial Washing Sponges (Link).

Nylon Turns Sixteen!

Fact number one: Nylon is one of my favorite magazines (should be the favorite, but Refinery29/i-D are silently climbing my list). Fact number two: one day I want to write for Nylon Magazine. Fact two is more of a dream than fact and may not even come true, but it is good to dream. I thought I would share a few photographs I took of the Nylon April Issue I got as a gift from my sister.
